Kathmandu: The Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) has announced the names of four teams to play in the Nepal T20 League, which is going to be held for the first time.
The CAN held a program at Hayat Palace on Monday and announced only the names of the 4 teams that will play in the league.
Six teams are scheduled to compete in the Nepal T20 League, but only four teams were announced in the program on Monday.
Among them are Kantipur Capitals, Biratnagar Super Kings, Janakpur Royals and Lumbini All Stars.
The franchise owner of Kantipur Capitals is Kantipur Media Group, while Nepali All Stars America has purchased the Lumbini All Stars team.
The remaining two teams will have Indian management. Biratnagar Super Kings will be operated by Diamond DigiCap Pvt Ltd and Janakpur Royals by Gold Sports Pvt Ltd.
CAN executive secretary Prashant Malla said that the remaining two teams will be announced soon.
Since the team owner was not present, the announcement process of the two teams was prolonged.
CAN announced the names of 6 cities that will play in the league last May.
Among them were Biratnagar, Janakpur, Kathmandu, Pokhara, Lumbini/Bhairawa and Sudurpaschim.
CAN had called for a tender to take ownership of that team. Accordingly, the name of the franchise team has been decided.
CAN has called Nepal T20 the official franchise league of Nepal. Which has also been approved by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Acting Secretary Malla said that it is a common practice to have foreign management in the franchise team of Nepal T-20 League.
He also requested that it should not be interpreted as bringing in foreigners without getting a franchise team from within Nepal in this tournament.
In every franchise in the world, it is common to have a foreign owner. The team that brings a reasonable proposal and which we trust will be recognized,” said Mall during the team announcement program.
“There is no belief that Nepal should be the only investment for the development of cricket. Even the ICC will not stop it.
Can has considered Nepal T20 League as his dream venture. Can claims that this will change Nepali cricket itself.
CAN had officially announced the Nepal T20 League last May.
According to which, the first edition will be held from October 8th to October 5th at Trivi Maidan Kirtipur.
CAN president Chatur Bahadur Chand said that the league will be held at the appointed time.
The Nepal T20 League had already been criticized after the Indian company Seven Three Sports was given the right to be the strategic and commercial partner for organizing the league.
The players are excited because the starting price of one player in the Nepal T20 league is 1.5 million.
