KATHMANDU: Nepali boxer Chiring Wangdi Sherpa has entered in the semifinals of ASBC by defeating Kuwait in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Sherpa defeated Mohammad Alineji Mohammad of Kuwait in the Asian Youth and Junior Boxing Championship (ASBC) in the UAE.
In the junior event, Sherpa defeated Mohammad of Kuwait by 5-0 points in the quarterfinals of the Bantam 54 kg category. He will play in the semifinals today.
Similarly, Swastika Thiruva of Nepal also bagged a medal in the women’s 52 kg category. Only four players are participating in the tournament. Along with Sherpa and Thiruva, Indra Bahadur Sunar (60 kg), Sulabh Mali (54 kg), Suden Giri (71 kg) and Narika Rai (57 kg) have participated in the competition.
The players who will participate in the UAE have been selected from the selection competition held at Satdobato in Lalitpur last month. Olympian and coach Deepak Maharjan, Sandeep Shrestha and Durga Gahatraj are participating in the team.
Man Bahadur Bhandari, a member of Nepal Boxing Association and Tarkaraj Rai, a member of Jhapa District Boxing Association are the managers of the team. The competition will be conducted till September 30.
