Delhi Capitals have returned to the top spot in Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket.
In the night match, Delhi returned to the top spot by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by 18 runs. Following the target of 229 runs given by Delhi, Kolkata lost 8 wickets in 20 overs and managed to score only 210 runs.
Earlier, losing the toss and batting, Delhi lost 4 wickets in 20 overs and scored 228 runs. With six points from four games, Delhi has slipped to the top of the table.
England batsmen Eoin Morgan and Rahul Tripathi shared a brilliant 78-run stand for the seventh wicket. In the 18th over, Morgan hit three sixes in a row off South Africa’s Kagiso Rawada.
Morgan scored 44 off 18 balls with 5 sixes and 1 four and Tripathi scored 36 off 16 balls with 3 sixes and 3 fours. Both could not bat till the end of the innings.
Morgan was dismissed in the 19th over by South Africa’s Erinch Norje and Tripathi in the last over by Marcus Stones.
Batting third, Nitish Rana hit a half-century off 58 balls with four sixes and four fours. Opener Shubhaman Gill added 28 runs. For Delhi, Norje took 3 wickets for 33 runs in 4 overs.
Hershal Patel took two wickets and Amit Mishra and Rawada took one wicket each. Earlier, losing the toss and batting, Delhi lost 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs and put up a total of 228 runs.
For Delhi, opener Prithvi Shaw and captain Shriyash Ayre batted aggressively with half-centuries and Rishabh Pant. Opener Prithvi Shaw scored 66 off 41 balls. He shared a 56-run stand with Shikhar Dhawan for the first wicket to give Delhi the lead.
Dhawan scored 26 off 16 balls and was caught by Varun Chakraborty. Prithvi hit 4 fours and 4 sixes in his innings. Captain Shriyash Ayre, who came in third, played a brilliant innings of 88 off 38 balls. He struck seven fours and six sixes.
After sharing 63 runs with Prithvi and 60 runs with Rishabh Pant, Delhi has crossed the 200 mark. Rishabh, who played 16 balls, struck five fours and one six in his 38-run knock. Kolkata’s Andre Rachel took 2 wickets.
