Kathmandu: Nepal has achieved a historic victory over India in Kava Women’s Nations League women’s volleyball.
Nepal defeated India 3-2 in the volleyball covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar. Nepal lost 25-18, 12-25, 25-17, 18-25, 15-13.
With the support of the home supporters, Nepal made a great start by taking a 12-6 lead in the first set. But after India came back and reduced the lead to 11-13, Nepal took the first time out.
After extending the lead to 22-18, the victory in the first set was almost assured. Nepal easily won the first set 25-18.
At the beginning of the second set, Nepal was tied 6-6. But after that, India scored points continuously and won easily by 15-12. After making a mistake in player change, Nepal got a red card and India did not play the last point.
In the third set, Nepal took a 16-9 lead and laid the foundation for an easy victory. Winning 25-17 in the third set, he was one set away from a historic victory.
In the fourth set, India was leading 8-3 at the start. India was continuously leading in the fourth set. India led 15-10 at half time.
Nepal showed the possibility of returning to the game by making 15-17. India won the fourth set 25-18 after losing five points in a row from being behind by 2 points in a very competitive match.
The beginning of the decisive fifth set was competitive. Usha Bhandari and Saraswati Choudhary spiked points and Nepal took a 5-2 lead and signaled a historic victory. Nepal changed the court in the fifth set at 8-5.
India took time out when Nepal was 12-10. The score was added after the time out. At 12-13, Nepal was one point away from victory after Saraswati scored from the left side. But when India scored again, the match reached 13-14. Nepal took a timeout to break India’s moments.
Earlier, the best performance in women’s volleyball between Nepal and India was the final of the 2019 South Asian Games (SAG) at Dasharath Stadium. In that match, Nepal lost 3-2 sets and missed out on winning the gold.
Along with Nepal, India, Iran, Maldives and Sri Lanka are participating in the Kava Women’s League. The top four teams will play in the semi-finals.
Nepal defeated Sri Lanka 3-0 in straight sets in the first match. India defeated Iran 3-1 in the first match and Maldives 3-0 in the second match in straight sets.
