Seven different world records made by Nepal in the T-20 Asian Games

Kathmandu: Nepal has started victoriously by defeating Mongolia in cricket under the Asian Games. Nepal defeated Mongolia by a wide margin of 273 runs and set various world records in today’s match.

Widest win

Pursuing the target of 315 runs given by Nepal for victory, Mongolia was bowled out for 41 runs in 13 overs. Nepal beat Mongolia by 273 runs. This is the highest number of runs in T20 cricket. Earlier in 2019, Czech Republic won by beating Turkey by 257 runs.

Highest sum

In Hangzhou, China, Nepal lost the toss and batted first. Nepal lost 3 wickets in 20 overs and added 314 runs. So far no team has scored 300 runs in international T20. In 2019, 278 runs scored by Afghanistan in the match against Ireland was the highest score made in T20 internationals.

Fastest century

Nepal’s Kushal Malla holds the world record for the fastest century in T20 cricket. He completed his century in 34 balls. He remained unbeaten on 137 runs off 50 balls. Earlier, India’s Rohit Sharma, South Africa’s David Miller and Czech Republic’s Sudesh Wickramshekhar scored centuries in the same 35 balls.

Fastest half century

In today’s match, Dipendra Singh Airi gave an incredible performance. He completed his half century in 9 balls. Airey became the fastest player to score a half-century.

Earlier, Yuvraj Singh, the fastest Indian player in T20I, completed his fifty in 12 balls in the match against England in 2007. Airey has set the record for the fastest half-century in any international match. He hit five consecutive sixes in the last five balls of the 19th over.

Most runs at number three

The 137 runs scored by Kushal Malla at number three is also a world record. No batsman could make such a big score at number four in T-20.

Highest partnership for the fourth wicket

Another record set today is the highest partnership for the third wicket in T20 international cricket. Kushal Malla and Rohit Paudel had a partnership of 193 runs.

Earlier, the world record for the highest partnership for the third wicket in T20 was held by DP Conway and GD Phillips of New Zealand. They had a partnership of 184 runs in the match against West Indies in 2020.

Most six

Nepal has also set the record for most sixes in T20 cricket. Nepal hit 26 sixes in 20 overs. Kushal Malla hit 12 sixes, Rohit Paudel 6 and Dipendra Singh Airi 8 sixes. The record for most sixes in a single T20 was held by Afghanistan and West Indies.

Afghanistan hit 22 sixes against Ireland in 2019. Similarly, West Indies hit South Africa for 22 sixes in 2023. Nepal has broken the joint record of both these teams today.

Nepal will play their last group stage match against Maldives on Sunday. Nepal has reached the quarter-finals and will have to play against a team between India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Nepal is aiming for a medal in cricket under the Asian Games.
