Villarreal stunned Bayern in the Champions League semifinals after 16 years

Kathmandu: Spanish club Villarreal have been knocked German club Bayern Munich out from the Champions League in semifinals after Samuel Chukvasaj scored two minutes before the end of the game.

Villarreal beat Bayern 2-1 in the two-leg quarterfinals. The same goal scored by Samuel at the end of the second leg was decisive.

Villarreal reached the semi-finals for the first time since losing to Arsenal in the Champions League semi-finals in 2006.

Villarreal ware beaten Bayern 1-0 in the first leg. Encouraged by this, Villarreal held Bayern to a 1-1 draw at home in the second leg.

Robert Lewandowski scored in the 52nd minute at the Allianz Arena as Bayern took the lead, tying the score at 1-1 overall, giving the home side hope of a comeback. But Bayern could not score another goal.

Samuel scored in the 88th minute to level the game 1-1. The goal took Villarreal to the last four as six-time winners Bayern were knocked out. Villarreal will now face the winner of the semi-final between Liverpool and Wenfica.

After Villarreal reached the semifinals, coach Unai Emery described it as a “unique experience” and said it was not easy.
