Mbappe scores twice as Real Madrid beats Athletic Club 3-0

KATHMANDU — Kylian Mbappe scored two goals to lead Real Madrid to a convincing 3-0 victory over Athletic Club in La Liga yesterday.

The match at San Mames stadium showcased a dominant performance by the visitors, who controlled the game from the opening whistle.

Real Madrid wasted no time taking the lead. Mbappe opened the scoring in the 7th minute, silencing the home crowd early. The early goal allowed Madrid to settle into a rhythm and dictate the pace of the match. Just before halftime, midfielder Eduardo Camavinga doubled the lead with a goal in the 42nd minute, sending Madrid into the break with a comfortable 2-0 advantage.

Athletic Club struggled to find a way back into the game in the second half. Mbappe struck again in the 59th minute to secure his brace and make the score 3-0. The third goal effectively ended any hope of a comeback for the home side.

Match statistics highlighted Real Madrid’s superior control. They held 58 per cent of the possession and completed 543 passes with a high accuracy rate of 93 per cent. This precision made it difficult for Athletic Club to regain the ball or build attacks.

While Athletic Club managed seven shots, only four were on target. In contrast, Real Madrid were highly efficient in front of goal, with eight of their ten shots forcing saves or hitting the net.

The discipline of the two teams also differed significantly. Athletic Club committed 14 fouls and received two yellow cards as they tried to disrupt Madrid’s play. Real Madrid played a clean game, committing only four fouls and receiving zero cards.
