Kathmandu. Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaj will play in the fourth edition of the Everest Premier League (EPL) from Kathmandu Kings XI.

Kathmandu has stated that it has signed Gurjab for the EPL. He is the third foreign player to be contracted in Kathmandu.

Kathmandu has already signed former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi and Singapore’s Janak Prakash for the EPL to be held from September 26 to 30. It is said that Gurbaj will arrive in Kathmandu in a few days. Gurbaj is the first player to score a century in his ODI debut for Afghanistan.

Gurbaj, 20, has played three ODIs and 13 T20I matches for Afghanistan. He made his ODI debut against Ireland in January this year and scored 127 runs.

He made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe in 2019. Gurbaj has scored 1,186 runs in 48 T20 matches so far.

This time, Kathmandu is being captained by Nepal’s Global T20 superstar Sandeep Lamichhane. Kathmandu has already appointed Kalam Ali as such coach.

Along with Sandeep, national team vice-captain Dipendra Singh Airy will also play from Kathmandu. But Dipendra, who was injured in the Oman tour, has not decided whether to play in the EPL or not. Similarly, 17-year-old fast bowler Gulshan Jha, who made his senior team debut in the Oman Tour, has also signed a contract in Kathmandu.

There are players including Subash Khakurel, Jitendra Mukhiya, Siddhant Lohani, Raju Rijal, Amit Shrestha and Amar Singh Rautela who have already played for the national team in Kathmandu.

The arrival of Afridi and Gurbaj has made the Kathmandu team even stronger.
