Asia Cup: Bangladesh beats India by 6 runs

Kathmandu: Bangladesh has beaten India by 6 runs in the Asia Cup 2023 at R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma chose to field against Bangladesh. Batting first, the Bangladesh batters could not match to the Indian pacers and lost their wickets early.

However, a partnership by a 100-runs partnership between Shakib Al Hasan and Towhid Hridoy helped Bangladesh set a challenging score of 265 ahead of India.

Bangladesh skipper Shakib scored a whopping 80 runs in 85 balls under pressure and he was supported by Towhid Hridoy who hit 54 in 81 runs.

Another batter who contributed was Nasum Ahmed(44). By the end of 50 overs, Bangladesh managed to put a chasing target of 266 runs for India.

For India, Shardul Thakur picked 3 wickets, Mohammed Shami took 2 wickets, while Prasidh Krishna, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja clinched one wicket each.

Ever since the beggining of the innings, Indian batter faced difficulties with Bangladesh bowlers. India lost their initial wickets within couple of overs to Tanzim Hasan Sakib.

Later, Mustafizur Rahman, Mahedi Hasan, skipper Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz ensured Indian batters couldn’t run at will.

However, Shubman Gill (121) kept his cool and hit his 5th ODI century. But after his wicket fell, India’s hope to win the also dessimated.

Until, Axar Patel (42) was there on the pitch, a little chance was still left, post that every ball appeared like a yorker, which resulted in wickets for Bangaldesh.

By the end of 49.5 over, India could score only 259 runs and lost by 6 runs.
