Kathmandu: The ICC ODI World Cup cricket tournament is starting from today. Preparations are underway for the grand opening of the tournament at India’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
This stadium has the capacity to hold 132,000 spectators. India will use various arts, skills and techniques to make the opening ceremony grand.
In the opening match of the World Cup, England and New Zealand are playing today at 2:30 PM according to Nepali time.
England is the winner of the previous edition in 2019 and New Zealand is the runner-up. The matches of this World Cup will be held in 10 cities of India – Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow and Bangalore.
10 countries including India, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka are participating in the World Cup.
The two-time World Cup winner West Indies did not qualify this time. The World Cup, which starts today, will last for 46 days until November 19.
All the countries will play against each other as the competition will be held on a round robin basis. There will be 48 matches between 10 teams in the tournament.
The top four countries will advance to the semi-finals. This is the 13th edition of the ODI World Cup which started in 1975.
This time the winner will get 4 million dollars, the runner-up will get 2 million dollars and the loser in the semi-finals will get 8 million dollars.
Australia is the most successful team in ODI World Cup. Australia has won the World Cup five times.
India and West Indies have won the title twice each and Sri Lanka, Pakistan and England have won the title once each.
