ICC WCL-2: PNG beat UAE by 56 runs

Kathmandu – Papua New Guinea (PNG) has defeated UAE by 56 runs in the Tri-Nations ODI series under ICC World Cup Cricket League-2.

Chasing the target of 247 runs given by PNG, UAE were bowled out for 190 runs in 42 overs. Aryan Lakra scored 51 runs and Muhammad Wasi scored 41 runs for UAE. On the bowling side, PNG’s Riley Hikure took 3 wickets and Kabua Mere and Asad Vala took 2 wickets each.

Earlier, PNG, who lost the toss and batted at the University Cricket Ground, scored 246 runs by losing 9 wickets in the scheduled 50 overs. Sesay Baule scored 81 not out, Hiri Hiri 77 and Kiplin Dariga scored 55 runs for PNG. On the bowling side, Ion Afzal Khan took 3 wickets and Junaid Siddiqui and Zahoor Khan took 2 wickets each for UAE.

This is UAE’s fourth consecutive loss against PNG in League-2. With this defeat, the possibility of UAE to play the World Cup qualifiers is over. Like UAE, they have to win all the remaining 3 matches to get ODI recognition.

UAE is at the sixth position in the League-2 table with 31 points in 33 games. To maintain the ODI recognition, they have to be in the top five of the table. PNG is at the bottom of the table with 11 points from 34 games.
