Kathmandu: Nepal and India are playing in the SAAF Championship Football today. The match will start at 10:15 pm Nepali time in Maldives. Nepal, which has won the previous two games, is at the top of the table with six points.
Nepal defeated Maldives 1-0 in the first match and Sri Lanka 3-2 in the second match. Nepal is close to the final with two consecutive wins. India, who have drawn two games, are in fourth place with two points.
India is under pressure to win the remaining two games to reach the final. India drew 1-1 with Bangladesh in the first match and drew 0-0 with Sri Lanka in the second match.
Speaking before the match against India, the head coach of the Nepali national team Abdullah Almutairi said that the Nepali national football team will not be afraid of the Indian team. He also said that Nepal will play with India to win.
India are clear seven-time winners. Nepal and India have played 21 matches so far and India has won 14 matches. Nepal has won two games and drawn five games.
Earlier, out of two friendly matches played at Dasharath Stadium, Nepal drew the first match and India won the second match 2-1. Similarly, captain Kiran Chemjong said that the game with India was important to fulfill his, team’s and Nepali football fans’ dream of winning a clean championship.
Igor Stimas, the head coach of the Indian team, also said that they will play to win against Nepal. He also said that the Nepali team is playing excellently. Five teams from South Asia are participating in the SAAF Championship.
Bangladesh, who have played three games, are second with four points and Maldives, who have played two games, are third with three points. Sri Lanka is at the bottom with one point. Before the match between Nepal and India, Maldives and Sri Lanka are also playing at 5.45 pm today.
