Women’s T20I Series: Nepal lost to Malaysia by 6 wickets

Kathmandu: Nepal lost to Malaysia by 6 wickets in their third match of the four-nation series before the ICC Women’s T20 Asia region qualifiers.

Malaysia achieved the target of 85 runs for victory at Biomass Sports and Event Complex in Malaysia by losing 4 wickets in 16.2 overs.

Opener Ainna Hamiza Hashim scored 37 not out to win Malaysia. Mahira Izzati Ismali added 21 runs. On the bowling side, Nepal’s Rubina Chhetri, Sita Rana Magar and Pooja Mahate took 1 wicket each.

Earlier, Nepal, who batted first, scored 83 runs losing 7 wickets in the allotted 18 overs. After the match was stopped due to rain in the middle of Nepal’s batting, Malaysia had to score 85 runs in the match which was reduced to 18 overs.

Captain Rubina Chhetri scored the most 23 runs for Nepal. He hit 2 fours and 1 six.

Similarly, Indu Burma scored 20 runs. Kajal Shrestha, who came in the opening, scored 18 runs in 21 balls with 1 boundary. Kajal and Indu Burma made a partnership of 25 runs for the second wicket.

Sita Rana Magar, who came in after that, scored 9 runs in 13 balls and was caught out. Indu Burma scored 20 runs off 33 balls and formed a partnership of 30 runs with captain Rubina Chhetri for the fourth wicket.

Nepal defeated Hong Kong by 6 wickets in the first match and Kuwait by 38 runs in the second match.

Today, despite the wide loss against Malaysia, Nepal has entered the final by staying at the top position on the basis of run rate. Malaysia is out despite the victory.

Nepal will play the final against second placed Hong Kong on Saturday.

Nepal was at the top position with 4 points out of 3 matches with 2 wins and 1 loss. Hong Kong finished second with 4 points from 3 games with 2 wins and 1 loss and qualified for the finals.

The net return rate of Nepal is 0.853 and that of Hong Kong is 0.192. Even though Malaysia had 4 points in 3 games, they could not reach the finals due to net return rate. Malaysia’s net return rate was only 0.007.

After this four-nation series, Nepal will play the ICC Women’s T20 Asia region qualifier in Malaysia.
