Poonam, Deepa and Indira retire from international football

Kathmandu: Nepali women’s national team members Poonam Zargha Magar, Deepa Rai and Indira Rai have announced their retirement from international sports. They belong to Tribhuvan Army Football Club.

Goalkeeper Poonam, midfielders Deepa and Indira announced their retirement with the conclusion of the sixth edition of the Women’s SAFF Championship at the Dasharath Stadium. The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) bid farewell to them with the blazer.

In the Women’s SAFF Championship held yesterday among nearly 16,000 home fans, Nepal was defeated by Bangladesh 3-1 and became the runner-up. Soon after, Kumar Thapa, the coach of the Nepali women’s team, also announced that he would resign as coach.

Thapa was given the responsibility of coach at the beginning of this tournament.
