Rohit Poudel became the vice-captain of the Nepali cricket team


Kathmandu: Rohit Kumar Poudel has been appointed vice-captain of the national cricket team.

Nepal Cricket Association (NCA) on Thursday appointed Rohit as vice-captain for the Cricket World Cup League Two tour of the United States and Scotland.

Rohit, who has already led the U-19 national team, has got a big responsibility in the senior team for the first time.

CAN had announced the squad under the captaincy of Sandeep Lamichhane for the series involving Nepal, USA and Oman which will be held in the United States only on Wednesday.

Last November, CAN disciplined the then captain Gyanendra Malla and vice-captain Dipendra Singh Airy and appointed Sandeep Lamichhane as the captain. But the vice-captain was not selected.

After that, Nepal did not have a vice-captain in the ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers, League Two series in UAE.

ODI series against Papua New Guinea at Tribhuvan Cricket Ground Kirtipur and T20 international series including Papua New Guinea and Malaysia. Sandeep captained all these.

Now Sandeep will get support in the leadership. Sandeep and Rohit have already captained U-19. Rohit, 20, made his ODI debut in 2018 against the Netherlands.

Rohit, who scored 623 runs including one century and four fifties, is the highest run scorer for Nepal in ODIs.
