World Cup- Qualifiers: Ukraine’s request to postpone the match against Scotland

Kathmandu: Ukraine has requested the postponement of the play-off semi-final match against Scotland in the World Cup qualifiers.

The match between Ukraine and Scotland is scheduled for March 24 in Hampden. However, football activities in Ukraine are currently suspended as Russia continues its offensive in Ukraine.

The winner of the match between Scotland and Ukraine is scheduled to play with Wales and Austria.

FIFA, the world’s governing body for football, has said it will discuss the matter with the UAEFA and Scotland.

Ukraine’s request confirming that  a spokesman has added: “FIFA expresses its solidarity with all those affected by the developments in Ukraine and will provide further updates in due course.”

Earlier this week, Scottish FA President Rod Petri wrote a message to his Ukrainian counterpart, saying “football is irrelevant in the midst of conflict.” Petrie even wrote to “send a message of support, friendship and unity.”
