Kathmandu: Sri Lanka defeated South Africa by 14 runs in their first ODI. Following Sri Lanka’s target of 301 runs in Colombo last night.
South Africa lost 6 wickets in 50 overs and managed to score only 286 runs. For South Africa, Edin Markram played a half-century innings of 96 runs. Rossi van der Dussen scored 59, captain Temba Babuma 38 and Heinrich Klaassen 36.
Sri Lanka’s Akila Dhananjay took two wickets and Chamika Karunaratne, Vanindu Hasarang and Prabhin Jayavikarma took one wicket each.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Sri Lanka lost nine wickets in 50 overs and added 300 runs. Sri Lanka’s Abhishek Fernando scored 118 runs while Charith Asalanka scored 72 runs and Dhananjay de Silva scored 44 runs.
South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj took 2/2 wickets. With the win, Sri Lanka has taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The second game will be tomorrow.
