Kathmandu:Â Bangladesh has overtaken Nepal in the SAFF Under-20 Football Championship and has climbed to the top of the points table.
In the second match yesterday, Bangladesh defeated Maldives by a wide margin of 4-1 goals. Bangladesh scored 4 goals in the first half at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India.
With this, Bangladesh won their third consecutive victory. Bangladesh is on the top position with 9 points from 3 matches, while second place Nepal has 6 points from 2 matches. Nepal defeated Maldives 4-0 in the first match and Sri Lanka 3-0 in the second match.
In another match yesterday, host India defeated Sri Lanka by a wide margin of 4-0. This is India’s first victory.
India is in third place with 3 points from 2 matches. Maldives and Sri Lanka, which are at the bottom, have not added any points.
The top 2 teams from the group stage of the tournament will play in the finals.
Nepal will play India today and Bangladesh on Tuesday. The final match will be held next Friday.
