Kathmandu: The closed of the national women’s volleyball team training is starting from today. Due to the Corona epidemic, the training which was supposed to start on May 6 was postponed.
General Secretary of the Nepal Volleyball Association Jitendra Bahadur Chand informed that most of the players of the team have already come to Kathmandu for training. Some of the players on the team are on their way to Kathmandu for closed training. The association had decided to select 30 players from the NVA Club Volleyball League and participate in the training.
A meeting of the association held on June 29 handed over the responsibility of training to Jagdish Prasad Bhatt. A selection committee comprising vice-president Niroj Maskey, coach Bhatt and Prajwal Bahadur Singh selected the players. Closed training has been started for the Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship to be held in the Philippines from September 13 to 20.
Eight players from the Nepal Army’s Tribhuvan Army Club, seven from the Nepal Police Police Club, seven from the APF Club and New Diamond Club of the Armed Police Force and one from Bharatpur Metro have been selected for the closed training.
Sunita Khadka, Sofia Pun, Shanti Tharu, Janaki Bhandari, Saraswati Jaisi, Kripa Adhikari, Sangam Mahato and Shrishti Khadka from Army, Kamala Pun, Usha Bhandari, Poonam Chand, Kamana Bisht, Laxmi Chand, Manisha Chaudhary and Shantikala Tamang from Police, Saraswati Chaudhary from APF. Niruta Thagunna, Hira KC, Usha Kumari Bisht, Pooja Chaudhary, Reshma Bhandari and Kavita Bhatt, Pratibha Mali from New Diamond Sports Club, Aruna Shahi, Salin Shrestha, Valmika Acharya, Jharna Shrestha, Riya Kunwar and Rima Kuwar and Saraswati Kattel from Bharatpur have been selected.
Similarly, Aarti Subedi and Nisha Chaudhary of Bharatpur, Pragati Nath of Diamond, Pushpa Shahi of Dhorpatan and Pushpa Chaudhary of Police are the alternate players. The association has selected Vice President Maske as the manager of the women’s team. Anju Shrestha has been given the responsibility of the team’s coach.
