Kathmandu: Gulshan Jha of Sarlahi has just turned 17 years old. He is more than 6 feet tall and has been associated with Nepali cricket for 6 months.
He entered Nepali cricket from the first Kathmandu Mayers Cup one-day cricket held last February. In the last two games of Nepal Police Club, he has managed to make a place in the national team.
He is also part of the 17-member Nepali team announced by the Nepal Cricket Association (NCA) for the triangular series between Nepal, Oman and the United States under the ICC World Cricket League-Two. Gulshan will probably be on the list of ODI cricket players for Nepal a month from now.
The triangular series between Nepal, Oman and the United States will be held in Oman from September 13 to 20. Before that, Nepal will play two ODI matches against Papua New Guinea (PNG) on September 5 and 8 in Oman.
As it is also a practice game, coach Dave Whatmore may give Gulshan a chance.
I didn’t feel like joining the team so soon
There is a lot of competition to be in the Nepali team now. On top of that he is a fast bowler. The fast bowlers in the Nepali team are Sompal Kami, Karan KC and Avinash Bohara. Another fast bowler Vikram Sob has also made a comeback.
Even in that case, he has made a place in the national team, which Gulshan himself did not expect. “I was preparing, but I didn’t think so,” said Gulshan, who spoke very little during the national team’s final training session on Sunday.
He said earlier, “I found out from Can after the practice, I can’t express the happiness of that time in words.”
A combination of speed and bounce
He said that during the two-week long closed training of the national team, he learned not only batting, bowling and fielding but also discipline from the coaches and seniors. Now he wants to do well when given the opportunity.
‘Living is a very different experience. I got to learn a lot from my brothers, the coach also supported me a lot, ‘he says,’ now I will try to do my best for the team. ‘
His specialty is speed and bounce. But it is not easy to make a place in the playing set. Because Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Avinash Bohara and Vikram Sob are in the team. Gulshan, on the other hand, says that there are many fast bowlers in the senior team. ‘What kind of force to throw? What does a batsman think? I got to learn how to read them, ”he said.
Gulshan said that the coach also suggested him to play without pressure when given the opportunity.
