Kathmandu: Nepal has won a historic victory over Scotland in the ICC World Cup Cricket League-2.
Nepal defeated the home team Scotland by 5 wickets in the tri-national one-day series. In this match, Nepal defeated Scotland for the first time after opener Asif Sheikh and fast bowler performed well.
Earlier, Nepal could not beat Scotland in ODI and T20 matches. Nepal lost 5 wickets in 25 overs 1 ball after reaching the target of 145 runs for victory in yesterday’s match.
With this win, Nepal has risen to the fifth position in the points table. Nepal’s opener Asif Shaikh played the highest half-century of 71 runs.
Similarly, Rohit Poudel remained unbeaten on 34 runs. Kushal Bhurtel (27), Dev Khanal (4), Dipendra Singh Airy (3) and Arif Sheikh (1) were all out.
Scotland’s Gavin Maine took three wickets. Scotland, who had earlier lost the toss and elected to bat first, were bowled out for 144 in 42 overs.
Scotland’s Gavin Maine remained unbeaten on 64 runs. This is also his first half century. Nepal’s Sompal Kami and Adil Ansari took the same 3/3 wickets.
Sandeep Lamichhane took two wickets and Dipendra Singh Airy and Karan KC took one wicket each.
Nepal had lost the first match by 40 runs to Namibia. Nepal will play Percy Namibia and Scotland on Sunday.
In the league points table, Nepal is in the fifth position with 17 points including 18 wins, 9 losses and one draw in 18 games.
After playing the same 36 games, the top three teams in League-2 will qualify for the World Cup in Zimbabwe in June-July 2023.
Along with the top three, the fourth and fifth-ranked teams in League-2 will maintain one-day international recognition for the next four years.
