Himalayan Sherpa enters semifinals of 5th Khaptad Gold Cup

KATHMANDU: Martyrs’ Memorial ‘A’ Division Club Himalayan Sherpa has entered the semifinals of the fifth Chief Minister’s Far-Western Khaptad Gold Cup Football Tournament.

Himalayan reached the last four by defeating the organizer and previous winner Sudurpaschim-11 Sports Club by two goals to one in a match played at Dhangadhi Stadium on Tuesday.

Piston Mutamba and Suresh Kumal scored one goal each to help Himalayan win the match. Pistons scored in the 34th minute to give Himalayan the lead.

After Suresh scored a goal in the 55th minute, Himalayan was leading 2-0. Then in the 67 th minute of the match, Far-Western’s Vivek Pandit scored a suicide goal to give Himalayan a 2-1 victory.

There will be a competition between Machhindra Club and Bagmati Youth Club on Tuesday.

Reacting after the game, Himalayan Sherpa Club coach Yugal Kishor Rai said that Far-West-11 could not score even though they performed better than expected.

Commenting after the game, Far-West-11 Sports Club coach Gajendra Shahi said that he could not score even after keeping the ball on his side for a long time.

Ten teams are participating in the competition organized by Sudurpaschim-11 Sports Club Dhangadhi. The winner of the competition with the highest amount of money will get Rs 2.1 million and the runner-up will get Rs 1 million.
