Nepal defeated Bahrain by 7 wickets in the ACC Under-19 Premier Cup

Kathmandu – Nepal has beaten Bahrain by seven wickets in a match under the ACC Men’s U19 Premier Cup-2023 underway in Malaysia. Chasing a meager 78-run target posted by Bahrain, Nepal achieved it in 11.4 overs at the loss of three wickets.

Nepal met the general target of 78 runs given by Bahrain by losing 3 wickets in 11 overs and 4 balls. Nepal captain Dev Khanal and Arjun Kumal scored 32 not out. On the bowling side, Obaid Saeed of Bahrain took 3 wickets.

Earlier, Bahrain, who won the toss and batted at Bayemas Oval in Malaysia, was bowled out for 77 runs in 5 balls in 37 overs. Mohammed Basil Abdul Hakeem of Bahrain scored the highest 34 runs. Other players could not score runs in double figures. On the bowling side, Nepal’s Dipesh Kandel took 6 wickets and Durgesh Gupta took 4 wickets. Dipesh gave only 4 runs in 9 overs 5 balls. Similarly, Durgesh gave 22 runs in 8 overs.

This is the consecutive victory of Nepal in the competition. In the first match, Nepal defeated Iran by 274 runs. Now Nepal will play against Saudi Arabia in the last match on Thursday. If they win this match, Nepal will reach the semi-finals.

16 associate teams from Asia are participating in the Premier Cup which started last Thursday. 16 teams are divided into 4 groups. The top 3 teams will get to play in the U-19 Asia Cup in Pakistan next December. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka have directly qualified for the Asia Cup.

Group ‘A’ consists of Nepal, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Iran. Similarly, UAE, Oman, Qatar and China are in group ‘B’. Singapore, Kuwait, Thailand and Maldives are in group ‘C’ and Hong Kong, Malaysia, Japan and Indonesia are in group ‘D’.
