Kathmandu: Papua New Guinea (PNG) has defeated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 5 wickets in the tri-nation ODI series under the ICC World Cup Cricket League-2.
PNG met the normal target of 98 runs given by UAE by losing 5 wickets in 25 overs 4 balls. Taney Ura scored 35 not out for PNG. Rehan Mustafa of UAE took 2 wickets for bowling. Similarly, Junaid Siddiqui, Ayan Afzal Khan and Zahoor Khan took 1 wicket each.
Earlier, UAE, who lost the toss and batted at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, could score only 97 runs in 26 overs. While Vritya Arvind scored the highest 20 runs for UAE, the other 4 players could not even score 1 run. On the bowling side, PNG’s Riley Hikure took 4 wickets and Chad Saper took 3 wickets.
In this series, Nepal will play against UAE on Monday. Nepal has yet to play 5 matches in League-2. If they win all the remaining matches, Nepal will be able to play the World Cup qualification directly, if they win 3 matches, the ODI recognition will remain.
In the points table, Nepal is at the sixth position with 30 points in 31 matches. PNG is at the bottom of the table with 9 points from 32 games. Having played 31 matches, UAE is in fifth place with 31 points.
