Kathmandu: Malaysia defeated Papua New Guinea (PNG) by eight runs in the tri-nation T20 series. After the target of 181 runs from Malaysia, PNG was all out for 172 runs in 19 overs with three balls to spare.
For PNG, Tanni Ura scored 56 and Norman Vanua scored 45 but the other players could not score well. For the bowlers, Malaysia’s Shervin Munindi took four wickets. Similarly, Mohammad Waqf and Pawandeep Singh took three wickets each.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss at Kirtipur Tribhuvan Cricket Ground, Malaysia scored 180 runs for the loss of three wickets in 20 overs.
For Malaysia, Birandeep Singh scored an unbeaten 59, Ahmed Faiz scored 56 and Syed Aziz scored 47 runs. PNG’s Norman Vanuva took two wickets for the bowlers.
In the tri-nation T20 series, Nepal will play its second match against Malaysia on Wednesday and third against PNG on Thursday.
